Our Story

More Than Landscaping. A New Standard in Service.

Most landscaping companies focus on cutting grass and moving on. GroundSmith was built to do more. Founded in 2017 by brothers Scott and Todd Smith, GroundSmith began with a clear goal. The mission was to raise the bar for residential landscaping in Central Ohio. That meant doing the job right, showing up when promised, and delivering a level of professionalism that homeowners weren’t used to seeing in the industry.
 
Scott and Todd knew the landscaping world from the inside out. Scott has spent more than thirty years in the green industry, starting on a golf course crew and later working for a large national landscape company on commercial accounts. That background showed them how organized systems, trained teams, and a clear mission created better outcomes. But when it came to residential service, they found the experience frustrating. They saw this both as professionals and as homeowners.
 
Bills were handwritten. Communication was spotty. Crews changed weekly. Extra requests were ignored. Customers often felt like an afterthought in their own backyards. That disconnect sparked a conversation. What if a landscaping company treated residential clients the same way top-tier commercial clients are treated? What if service was consistent, crews were accountable, and customers actually felt heard?
 
That idea became GroundSmith.

Outdoor needs do not always arrive as a single project. A homeowner may be weighing landscape design or drainage work while also planning irrigation startups and winterizations, recurring mowing, spring and fall cleanups, or holiday lighting. GroundSmith’s verified range gives residents of Lewis Center and the wider Columbus-area service territory a useful starting point for separating one-time improvements from recurring or seasonal care.

GroundSmith began working with Lawn & Land Marketing in January 2026 to make that year-round range easier to navigate online. Organizing the service information by the role each service plays helps visitors decide whether they are planning an improvement, addressing a care need, or coordinating work across more than one season before they request an estimate.
